Governor General’s Finalists Announced

The Governor General’s Literary Award finalists for fiction in English were announced yesterday.  The five books vying for this year’s prize are:

  • The Free World by David Bezmozgis
  • Half-Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan
  • The Little Shadows by Marina Endicott
  • The Sisters Brothers by Patrick de Witt
  • Touch by Alexi Zentner

In all 68 finalists across 7 categories, and both official languages were named. For more details see the Canada Council news release here.

This announcement represents a hat trick for Esi Edugyan, whose novel Half-Blood Blues has been nominated for the Booker, The Giller and now the Governor General’s awards.

Winners will be announced November 15, 2011.
