Local Canlit Events

Always happy to pass along information about local CanLit events.

R.D. Lawrence Place in Minden Ontario will be hosting a number of CanLit related events over the next month or so.

August 12 at 1:00 pm running to September

Poetry As Art Exhibition in R.D. Lawrence Place
Writer In Residence Ron Evans wrote four poems which he gave to artists Wendy Wood, Laurie O’Reilly, and Doug Pugh. These artists created four paintings based on these poems. View the results of this intriguing collaboration.

Saturday, August 13, 2011:

Children’s Workshop with Alex Hamilton Brown, a raconteur extraordinaire, internationally renowned for his screenwriting and film work, who will reveal the eight secrets of great story-telling to workshop participants. This is one of a series of events that make up the centre’s annual Literary Festival.

Ages 6 and up.
10:00 am at R.D. Lawrence Place

Also on the 13th:

Canadian Writers Open-Mike

Hosted by coordinator Sheryl Loucks, an exciting line-up of authors will read from their work and be available for book signing, etc.

Finally, and particularly exciting for me, as another in a series of Literary Festival events, Joe Fiorito, one of my favourite Canadian authors (see reviews: The Song Beneath the Ice and The Closer We Are to Dying) and current Toronto Star columnist, will be visiting the Highlands for an evening of wine and words.
